Ugandan artist Ivan Bugembe Ssentamu, widely recognized as Dax Vibez, is reeling after Hotel Africana abruptly called off his much-anticipated first headline concert, slated for August 29, 2025.
On Saturday, the singer took to Facebook to share his shock and frustration. “Nine months of promotion down the drain—Hotel Africana just cancelled my concert. I’m at a loss for what’s next,” he wrote, capturing his dismay.
The event was poised to be a defining moment in Dax Vibez’s rising career, drawing significant attention due to his growing fanbase and his familial tie to Robert Kyagulanyi, the National Unity Platform (NUP) leader and opposition figure known as Bobi Wine.
For months, the concert had been heavily marketed, with expectations of a large turnout at the prominent Kampala venue, Hotel Africana. As of now, the hotel has provided no official explanation for the cancellation, leaving fans and observers puzzled.
This isn’t the first such disruption at the venue. Earlier this year, in February, Hotel Africana scrapped a concert by singer Alien Skin, attributing the decision to security issues.
The recurring cancellations have sparked speculation about potential political or external influences on the hotel’s management, especially when artists linked to opposition figures are involved.
Outraged supporters have flooded X with calls for clarity from Hotel Africana and messages of solidarity for Dax Vibez, urging resilience in the face of this setback. Some view the cancellation as part of a larger trend of interference in Uganda’s entertainment scene.
Dax Vibez has yet to announce whether he will reschedule the concert at a new venue or postpone it indefinitely but assured fans he would share updates soon.
